Yoga in Treatment Centers

Through my highly specialized training focused on approachable and trauma-sensitive teaching, my focus is to bring students encouragement, confidence and healing through the mind-body connection of their practice.

I meet students where they are in order to best meet the needs of each unique client population. I am able to work collaboratively with clinicians and therapists at treatment centers to develop best practices and population-focused curriculum – recognizing age, ability, and trauma sensitivities are critical to meeting students where they are, and nurturing their particular needs. I encourage yoga philosophies and meditation as additional tools that support postures/asanas and aid in promoting and maintaining recovery. My teaching style is informed, encouraging and empathy-driven, balanced by gentle humor and creativity.

Experienced in teaching gender, body and age-inclusive yoga to diverse populations in clinical inpatient and outpatient settings. Over the past years I have taught regularly in eating disorder treatment centers, mental health facilities and addiction and detox centers. Well-versed in client notes and documentation as well as HIPAA standards. Current BLS/CPR First Aid AED certification as well as CPI.

“My favorite part of Emily’s teaching style is that she doesn’t force me to do or feel anything. Emily is more of a guide and then I get to choose… it is responsibility for what I get out of the practice.”
